Well, our broilers have arrived from Murray McMurray. I was a little disappointed this order of chicks took a longer than when our Barred Plymouth Rock hens arrived. They printed the label on Monday, and the chicks did not arrive until Thursday morning. The chicks stayed in the nearest large city for an entire day.

Anyway, here are some more photos of the Jumbo Cornish Cross Chickens.  I have half the brooder box covered in wood to let the chicks move over if they want. I also put the food and water under that part to encourage these Jumbo Cornish Cross to walk a bit.

I noticed that Murray McMurray Hatchery participates in the National Poultry Improvement Plan, and I want to know more about that. I also noticed for the first time since I vaccinate our chickens for Coccidiosis we must not use medicated feed, or it will “nullify” the vaccine. Now, I do not use medicated feed, but now I have to ensure we never use it. Our next step in self-sufficiency is growing a few meat chickens. We will see how it goes.
